On March 8th, RTL made entertainment history in Germany. It was the final showdown of the biggest German talent search of all times: “Deutschland Sucht Den Superstar”. No other event has fascinated the people between the island of Sylt and Garmisch Partenkirchen as much as this tv show. Almost 13 million viewers (market share of 40,18%) were eager to see the two remaining contestants, who fought themselves through countless preliminaries, in their final battle: Juliette or Alexander? As exciting the search for the most talented and promising German new entertainment talent as been, as clear was the final decision on this one Saturday in March: more than 70 per cent gave their vote to the smart 19-year old Alexander Klaws who took both the jury and viewers by storm that night with his great voice and a professional performance. The Germans have found their superstar.

Although millions of fans agree that Alexander deserved to win the contest, there is one guy who cannot really get used to this kind of euphoria: the winner himself makes his point unmistakeably clear when he says “I don´t really feel like a superstar”. “I am realistic and always try to keep my feet on the ground. One can only become a superstar one day through hard work and I still have a long long road ahead of me”. He may be right with his humble stance but one thing is clear: the direction in which he moves is the right one and his # 1 debut single “Take Me Tonight”, which has sold more than 1,1 million copies to date, is giving enough proof of that.

But there are some more reasons to be optimistic about the right direction. The first reason is called talent. For Alexander singing and making music is not just a way of spending your time with or a simple means to carry him into the limelight. For Alexander, who still lives together with his parents and sister Melanie, music is much more: it is a calling, the meaning of his life. And this is not meant in an exaggerated way. Ever since his early childhood Alexander always took any chance to train and use his vocal chords. Thus, his musical talent was soon discovered by his parents and teachers. Then Alexander started with piano lessons.

As a teenager in school he performed in several bands which played rock and pop. His expressive voice and performance powers became known amongst regional musicians and soon Alexander was asked to become the lead singer in a famous nationwide big band. It was in this big band where Alexander had the chance to show the audience for the first time that he can persist in more demanding musical styles like jazz, blues or soul.

It is true: talent and good looks are important pre-requisits for a career in music. Nevertheless, they would be without any effects if a newcomer didn´t have the right professional attitude. But what is a “professional attitude”? Alexander has often used this term in the 15 episodes of “Deutschland Sucht Den Superstar” (“Germany is searching for the superstar”) and during that time he has displayed as often as possible what he considers as “professional attitude”: namely his sole ambition to win the contest. For example during the semi-finals when he gave his very best in front of millions of viewers although the doctors advised him to stay at home and cancel the show due to a serious inflammation of his vocal chords. Or when he stayed calm and relaxed although a famous German tv host blackbit on him. Alexanders reaction: “I laughed about it and even felt honoured that he talked about me in his tv show”. Alexander´s professionalism and determination is also undermined in one clear and simple statement: “Germany is searching the superstar is over – here comes Alexander”.

And he sure has arrived with his first stunning single “Take Me Tonight” as well as with his debut album “Take Your Chance” which went both straight to # 1 in the media control charts. On his long player Alexander shows the musical diversity of his repertoire: pop, dance, rock-pop, soul, disco and touch of R´n´ B giving the listener good and professional entertainment made by an extremely talented singer. But Alexander does not only seem to have discovered his talent in music but has also found out that he is a very talented writer. His fanbook “Ich bin´s – Alexander“ („It´s me – Alexander”) has sold more than 30,000 copies and has been in the bestseller list of SPIEGEL Magazine for weeks. And now Alexander has added another piece to the puzzle to reach superstardom: His current single “Free Like The Wind” went straight to # 1 in the German single charts. With this title track to the RTL movie production “Held Der Gladiatoren” (“Hero Of The Gladiators”) Alexander can smoothly keep up with the success of his previous releases and thus delivers another great pop song, just in time for the colder and darker days and nights of winter. When asked about his work on the soundtrack, Alexander replies: “It has always been my dream to sing a song for a movie soundtrack and this dream has come true with “Free Like The Wind” in the “Hero Of The Gladiators” movie.
